Big Walk & Wheel 1

27th Mar 2022

An excellent start has been made by St Ronan's in this year's Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel!

So many children have made the choice to engage in active travel. This week, there has been over 100 children each day as part of our walking group from Castle Park. There has also been an ever-growing number of P1 and P2 pupils walking from Lidl with their parents. These two groups combined with children walking, cycling and scooting from their homes has meant over 70% of our pupil population are now actively travelling to school!

On top of this, there has been a huge increase in physical activity around our school since the start of the Big Walk and Wheel (the good weather has definitely helped!). Some classes have been carrying out cross country trials as part of early preparation for the Fermanagh Schools Cross Country in May, whilst others have been completing their daily mile around the school and gardening in the polytunnel.

A big thank you and well done to our pupils, staff, volunteers, crossing patrols and parents for their active travel efforts this week. One final big push next week to help make active travel a regular feature in our school community and to help us achieve the Sustrans gold mark award!
