The children from the two P7 classes were today involved in a major tree planting event. In conjunction with SSE Electricity, who were represented by Eoin Mc Caffrey, the children planted 22 trees in the school grounds. The aim of the planting was to increase the biodiversity within the school grounds.
The day began with Eoin teaching the children about biodiversity and explaining ways in which we can all contribute to making it happen. After this, all the children had the opportunity to actually plant a tree in the school grounds. As well as this, each child received either a Rosemary or Lavender shrub to plant at home. As a special treat,each child was presented with a specially commissioned T-shirt to mark the occasion.
Thanks to Mr. Foy who arranged the day. This will contribute to our school's effort to achieve the Eco Schools Green Flag Award. Thanks also to Eoin and his two helpers for their very educational and fun day!
